Policy Statement and Objectives of the Plan
The purpose of the Suffolk University Emergency Action Plan (EAP) is to establish policies, procedures, and an organizational structure for response to emergencies. The plan contains clear strategies and the roles played by various departments (University Police and Security, Facilities, Risk Management, Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS), Health Services, Residential Life and Summer Programs, Student Affairs, Human Resources, Public Affairs and Office of the General Counsel) during the initial response and throughout the emergency. Nothing in this plan shall be construed in a manner that limits the use of good judgment and common sense in matters not foreseen or covered by the elements of the plan. The plan and organization shall be subordinate to State and Federal plans during a disaster declaration by authorized representatives of the federal, state and/or local governments.
Because it is impossible to write detailed plans covering every possible contingency, this document provides broad guidelines, rather than specific procedures. It is imperative that departments and other units create their own emergency response plans for situations that may develop under their purview and which incorporate these guidelines.
