1.6.2 Biological, blood, or body fluid spills
- Alert all personnel in the immediate area of the spill
- Call SUPD at (617)573-8111
- Contact the Office of Environmental Health & Safety at (617) 570-4849 or (617)573-8628.
- Isolate the area
1.6.3 Bloodborne Pathogen Spill
A bloodborne pathogen (BBP) spill is: blood, any bodily fluid, or potentially infectious material that would create a concern for public health.
- Alert all personnel in the immediate area of the spill
- Isolate the area and contain the spill if possible
- Only tend to injured person(s) if properly trained
- Don proper personal protective equipment (PPE) if responding to a BBP incident
- Call SUPD at (617)573-8111
- SUPD will alert ABM to clean up spill and other departments or resources if needed
- ABM will properly dispose of bloodborne material
- Contact the Office of Environmental Health & Safety at (617) 570-4849 or (617)573-8628.
Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Incident
- Employees who are involved in an exposure incident to BBP should report it immediately to SUPD by calling (617) 573-8111. A report will be filed. First Aid will be provided.
- Anyone involved in a BBP exposure should wash any BBP material off of the body and clean area with soap and water.
- Anyone involved in a BBP exposure should seek medical treatment if the exposure is a concern for their well being.
- Students who are involved in an exposure incident should report immediately to Health Services.
