Judy's comments on the present policy:  In the employee handbook we do have a policy" in opposition to workplace violence" which defines work place violence a little differently, but which is substantially the same.  The policy requires that the person report the incident directly to the University Police.  The policy further stipulates that the person exhibiting the behavior will be removed from the property pending the outcome of an investigation.

Assuming that the idea here is to develop an outline for the emergency responder, this is what I would suggest:

 

  1.  Report the violent behavior (or threat of violent behavior) immediately to the University Police.

Your report should include:

Nature of the incident

Location of the incident

Identification or description of those involved

  1. University Police will report the incident to Human Resources (if the incident involves employees) and to the appropriate Student Affairs Office (If the incident involves students).

John, do you want the incident reported to HR as it is reported to Univ Police?

  1. The employee exhibiting the violent behavior will be removed from the situation (and will generally be removed from campus).
  2. Human Resources and University Police will conduct an investigation of the incident.
  3. An employee who has exhibited violent behavior on campus will not be allowed to return to campus or to work until an investigation has been completed and a satisfactory plan has been developed.  Violent behavior at the University can result in discipline, termination and/or prosecution

 

I think that the identification factors and the self protection tips are fine.  I just don't know if you want them here or not.
