This document provides a general guidance of evacuation procedures for students with disabilities in case of fire or other building emergencies. Upon arrival at Suffolk University, students with disabilities should contact the Office of Disability Services at 617-994-6820, or disabilityservices@suffolk.edu, for assistance in creating an evacuation plan.  As part of your evacuation plan, the Office of Disability Services will notify the Department of Residence Life & Housing, and the Suffolk University Police Department (SUPD) of the fact that you have an evacuation plan.

The evacuation of any Suffolk University building during a fire alarm is required, regardless of cause. In accordance with regulatory requirements and Suffolk University policies and procedures, everyone must evacuate a building in which a fire alarm is sounding or blinking. Fire alarms include, but are not limited to accidental alarms, false alarms, scheduled drills, and conditions caused by fire and/or smokeGeneral building evacuation procedures are covered in Section 1.3 Building Evacuation.

Evacuating Students with Disabilities:

    • If you are in a residence hall, your RA will find you (if safe to do so), advise you to get to a safe location and will notify the SUPD of your whereabouts once they are out of the building. You should still contact the SUPD immediately by dialing 617-573-8111, or extension 8111 from a University phone.
    • If you are in the classroom, the SUPD will have access to your course schedule and will either come assist you, or notify the fire department. You should still contact the SUPD immediately by dialing 617-573-8111, or extension 8111 from a University phone.
