We have provided below some tips that will help you reduce paper waste and maximize printing efficiency.

1. Print double-sided

Printing documents double sided saves paper. Click Print, go to Properties and confirm that double-sided printing is selected.

2. Accept student papers and assignments electronically

Whether via email or the Digital Drop Box in Blackboard, electronic submission saves time and reduces paper consumption.

3. Print only what you need

If you don’t have to print everything, print only the pages you need. Click "File" then select "Print" and type in the page number range that you wish to print. You can always go back and print the remaining pages should the need arise.

4. Look for a "Printer Friendly" version

When printing from a web site, check for a "Printer Friendly" version of the page you are about to print. If not available, copy and paste the text into a Microsoft Word document and print from there.

5. Click Print just once

Reduce waste by clicking "Print" just once. If your document doesn’t print immediately, be patient, and don’t go back and click on "Print" another time. If your document still doesn’t print, check the printer icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen (if present) to see if your print job has been queued.

6. Review your document before printing

Some documents such as web pages, PDF files or even PowerPoint files may have blank pages. Printing blank pages wastes paper.

7. Print from "Handout" view in PowerPoint

If you are trying to print from a PowerPoint presentation and want to save paper, print in "Handout" view. Click "File" then select "Print" and choose "Handouts" instead of the default "Slides."
