Microsoft Office for home is available to all Suffolk University faculty and staff through the Home Use Program (HUP) benefit. This program enables faculty and staff to get a licensed copy of Microsoft® Office to install and use on the home computer.
Read this first: Microsoft has recently released Office 2010, which is the version available through this program. The university currently uses Office 2007 version on campus. Office 2010 is resource intensive and may not perform well on older computers. We highly recommend that you evaluate your computer before you install Office 2010 to verify your computer meets or exceeds the minimum system requirements required by Microsoft.
1. How can faculty and staff obtain this Microsoft Home Use Program (HUP) benefit?
There are two ways of getting Microsoft Office for home:
1. Bring your computer to OTM and we will install it for you. You must open a ticket and schedule a time with us.
2. You can download or order the software online at the Microsoft HUP Web site. To access this web site, you must use the unique program code provided by the university. The program code is only distributed to eligible employees. Please contact OTM to receive this code.
Note: We cannot loan you the install CD due to Microsoft's licensing restrictions. You can either bring in your computer on campus or order the software from the program website.
2. How many copies of Microsoft Office can faculty and staff get?
Faculty and staff are only eligible for one (1) installation of Office. Choose your computer wisely.
To access the Microsoft HUP site, you should:
1. Go to http://hup.microsoft.com/
2. Select the country you want the order to be shipped to and choose the language for viewing the order Web site.
3. Enter your Suffolk e-mail address and program code.
4. Place your order online. You can download the software package to your computer for $9.95. If you choose to download only, make sure you save the file as a backup for future use. Alternatively, you can add a backup DVD to the order. Please note that a fulfillment fee of $12 will be charged to cover packaging, shipping, and handling costs of the MS Office software DVD.
