How to Report a Fire
If you suspect a fire in the building, call Suffolk University Police at (617) 573-8111. Persons discovering a fire, smoky condition, or explosion should:
- Pull the nearest fire alarm/pull station. This will notify the Boston Fire Department that there is a fire in the building. Fire alarm pull stations are located next to the interior stairwell doors.
- Call 911 or (617) 573-8111 from a safe location to confirm and identity the location of a fire in the building.
- Walk to the nearest stairway or exit and leave the building. Do not use elevators during a fire.
4.1.1Fire Extinguishers
Fire extinguishers should be used by trained personnel only. The safe evacuation of the building is the number one priority. Only if it is absolutely necessary should a fire extinguisher be used. Fire Extinguisher Guide

5.1.2 Procedures for clothing on fire
- Roll the person around on floor, smother flames with a fire blanket, or drench with water if safety shower is immediately available
- Obtain medical attention by calling Suffolk University Police at (617) 573-8111 or (617) 573-8333
- Report incident to your supervisor and to the Office of Environmental Health & Safety at (617) 570-4849 or (617) 573-8628
