5.1.1Responses to Fires (Still applicable?)


Upon detection of smoke and/or fire, follow the R-A-C-E plan described below:
R – RESCUE When you discover a fire, rescue or assist people in immediate danger, only if you can do so safely without endangering yourself.
A – ALARM Sound the alarm by activating a fire alarm pull station and calling University Police at (617)573-8111 from a safe location.
C – CONFINE Close all doors, windows, and other openings as you leave, only if you can do so safely.
E – EVACUATE Immediately evacuate the building.

SPECIAL ASSISTANCE – If you need assistance, notify your instructor or supervisor or call Suffolk University Police at (617) 573-8111 or (617) 573-8333. Describe the type of assistance you need and the floor where you are located. Go to a landing at the nearest stairwell exiting to the outside and wait for assistance from the Fire Department.Wouldn't this go under 4.5

5.1.2Procedures for clothing on fire


  • Roll the person around on floor, smother flames with a fire blanket, or drench with water if safety shower is immediately available
  • Obtain medical attention by calling Suffolk University Police at (617) 573-8111 or (617) 573-8333
  • Report incident to your supervisor and to the Office of Environmental Health & Safety at (617) 570-4849 or (617) 573-8628
