Cancellations and Delays Policy

  • In the event that weather or other emergency conditions warrant the all-day closing, delayed opening or early closure of the University, announcements will be made via the University Emergency Messaging System; no school closing notifications will be made before 5:30 a.m. School closing information will also be posted on the website.
  • In the event that weather or other emergency conditions warrant the all-day closing, delayed opening or early closure of the University, announcements will be made on the following radio and television stations, and websites:
  • Radio stations: WBZ 1030 AM
  • Television Channels: WBZ-TV Channel 4, WCVB-TV Channel 5, WHDH-TV Channel 7, FOX25-TV Channel 25
  • Other: Rhode Island Broadcasters Association (RIBA) participating members http://www.ribroadcasters.com/images/user/file/RIBA%20Stations.pdf
  • Websites: www.suffolk.edu
  • Please call 866-312-2632 for updated messages. Do not call the University Police Department, switchboard, administrative offices, radio, or television stations to verify University closing.
  • On-line classes are typically not cancelled due to weather.

The decision on early dismissal of employees due to weather conditions will be announced via the media outlets stated above, the University's website, as well as the emergency messaging system, except for weekends when the emergency messaging system will not be used.

Please note:

  • When classes are delayed or canceled, the cancellation will apply to the entire University, including all three schools – Arts & Sciences, including NESAD, Business, and Law – as well as libraries and all University activities (Student Affairs, athletic events, performances, etc.), but does not impact on-line classes.
  • In the event of a delayed opening, classes will begin and administrative offices will open at 10 a.m.  Classes scheduled before 10 a.m. will be canceled for the day.
  • For an afternoon closing, the normal ending time will be 3 p.m. (no classes will begin after 3 p.m.), unless weather conditions require earlier closing.
  • Weekend and holiday closings or delays, will be handled in the same manner as weekdays, except the emergency messaging system will not be used.
  • No labels
