In the event of an evacuation of the building, the following procedures are to be implemented:

  • Temporary Evacuation – A temporary evacuation is one which a building is closed for a short period of time. In the event of inclement weather, winter conditions, or an evacuation that will be greater than 30 minutes, individuals will be brought to Sargent Hall.
  • Short-term Evacuation – A short-term evacuation is one in which a building is closed for a period of 48 hours or less. In the event of a short-term evacuation, the Red Cross will be contacted and will establish a temporary shelter in the Ridgeway gymnasium. Students living in the area that can find alternate shelter housing will be encouraged to do so for the short period of time. Others will utilize the temporary shelter in the gymnasium. Suffolk University will ensure that all of the needs of students are met.
  • Long-term Evacuation – A long-term evacuation is one in which a building is closed for a period greater than 48 hours. Students living in the area that can find alternate shelter housing will be encouraged to do so. Others will be housed in one of the several area hotels, based upon hotel availability.
